SIOC LANGUAGE SUMMER CAMPS

Parent and guardian guide

A practical decision guide for supervised language travel: safeguarding, airport handover, rooming, meals, medication, phone rules, homesickness and emergency communication.

Start with the supervision model

A residential junior camp, a supported host-family course and a 16+ adult-school programme are not equivalent. Match the model to maturity, travel experience and the family’s need for control.

Airport handover and unaccompanied minors

Confirm the exact airport, staffed arrival window, airline UM booking, delayed-flight procedure, emergency number and the name or uniform of the person meeting the student.

Safeguarding and night supervision

Ask who is on site overnight, how rooms are allocated, what curfew applies, how absences are recorded and how incidents are escalated.

Accommodation and meals

Verify room occupancy, bathroom ratio, laundry, bedding, deposits, dietary needs, allergy procedures and whether the student can be moved if the placement is unsuitable.

Health, medication and insurance

Provide accurate medical information. Confirm prescription storage, who may administer medicine, local healthcare access and what the included insurance actually covers.

Phones, spending money and free time

Agree realistic phone rules and spending limits. Understand when the student may leave the campus, with whom, and how age-specific permissions work.

Learning expectations

One or two weeks can improve confidence, listening and willingness to speak. It cannot guarantee a dramatic CEFR-level jump. Progress depends on attendance and using the language outside class.

Homesickness and parent contact

Plan a calm contact routine. Daily intervention can make adjustment harder; no contact at all can feel unsafe. Know who parents should contact before calling the student repeatedly.

What SIOC confirms

SIOC requests the current programme sheet, exact 2026 campus, available places, transfer conditions, housing, supervision rules, inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms before final reservation.
