What I mean is that I prefer smaller groups.

Let me rephrase that.

Use it for: reformulate

Let me rephrase that more clearly.

I’m not completely sure, but…

Use it for: qualify uncertainty

I’m not completely sure, but I think it starts Monday.

The word I’m looking for is…

Use it for: recover vocabulary

Helpful tip: There is rarely one “best” phrase. Choose the wording that matches your meaning, tone and situation, then practise saying it in your own voice.

Your turn

Choose Give me a second… and one other expression above. Say the same idea in two different ways. Which one would you use with a classmate, and which feels better in a more careful conversation?
